67-year-old woman fatally struck by car while crossing Route 166 in Toms River

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A 67-year-old woman was fatally struck by a car while crossing Route 166 on Sunday evening, police confirmed.

Cynthia Ryder was crossing the highway near 1055 Route 166 around 5:43 p.m. when she was hit by a northbound 2015 Hyundai Genesis driven by Arnita Morris of Manchester, according to the Toms River Police Department.

Ryder was taken to Community Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries.

The roadway was shut down for several hours as authorities conducted an investigation at the scene.

The Toms River Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit, with support from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, is continuing to investigate the incident.
