71-year-old man gets early $250,000 birthday present with winning lottery ticket

BROOKLYN, MD – A 71-year-old man who bought a $10 Lady Luck scratch-off ticket last week ended up winning $250,000 and becoming the first winner of the new scratch-off game by the Maryland Lottery.

“The lucky player came into the Lottery Winner’s Circle with a copy of his instant ticket in hand and a smile on his face,” the Maryland Lottery said in a statement. “The 71-year-old, who will celebrate his birthday this month, talked about saving his big win for a rainy day.”

Lady Luck is one of the new King and Queen of scratch-offs, which went on sale in September. The $30 Cash is King scratch-off and Lady Luck game offer top prizes of $2 million and $250,000, respectively and have hundreds of thousands of prizes awaiting discovery.
