MANCHESTER, N.J. — A 71-year-old woman was airlifted to the hospital after her vehicle veered off State Highway Route 70 and crashed into a wooded area on Saturday afternoon, Manchester Township Police said.

Thelma Dantzler, of Whiting, was driving a 2016 Kia Sportage eastbound near Colonial Drive when the car left the roadway, briefly went airborne, and came to a stop about 60 feet into the woods. She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and suffered multiple upper body injuries.

Emergency responders, including EMTs, firefighters, and paramedics, assisted at the scene before Dantzler was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in stable condition.

Investigators believe a medical episode may have contributed to the crash, which remains under investigation by the department’s Traffic Safety Unit.
