CLAYTON, DEL. – A 73-year-old man was killed Tuesday afternoon after his vehicle was struck by a pickup truck at a rural intersection in Clayton, according to Delaware State Police.
The crash occurred at approximately 12:08 p.m. on April 22, when a silver Jeep Compass traveling northbound on Alley Mill Road failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the intersection with Clayton Delaney Road. At that moment, a Chevrolet Silverado was heading eastbound on Clayton Delaney Road and collided with the driver’s side of the Jeep.
The driver of the Jeep, a 73-year-old Clayton resident, was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Authorities have not released his identity pending notification of his next of kin.
The 40-year-old man driving the Silverado, also from Clayton, and his two passengers sustained minor injuries in the crash. All three were taken to a local hospital and have since been released.
Delaware State Police Troop 2’s Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene and closed the roadway for approximately three hours to conduct a thorough investigation and remove debris.
