PHILADELPHIA, PA – Yesterday, the city of Philadelphia held a press event to show that it was cleaning up the Kensington section of the city. Kensington has become one of the most notorious drug-infested neighborhoods in America.
The city cleaned the streets using leafblowers and a street sweeper and dismantled a homeless encampment.
During their sweep, police and sanitation workers also recovered 75 stolen shopping carts.” said PPD officer Anthony Luca. “75 carts recovered from the streets of Kensington this morning by East Service Detail and @PhillyCLIP. Continuing to do our best to clear up not only the violence but the quality of life in the Division. Well done to the team!!”
The carts were all sanitized and power washed before being placed on a flatbed truck. Their fate is uncertain.
It’s not sure exactly where the occupants of the former encampment went, but according to NBC News 10, “City officials said that some of those in the encampment are expected to go into treatment centers and other housing that may be in the Kensington area or other parts of the city where there are treatment beds available or some will just go into shelters for people living homeless.”
Residents and local business owners criticized the one day effort.

“Y’all didn’t do sh– here,” one woman said. “You’re gone today, we’re not. Y’all just bringing the sh– around the corner.”
On Thursday morning, the once spotless street and sidewalks were accumulating with litter within 2024 hours of the operation. Transit cops were stationed outside the SEPTA station, but all were looking at their phones on a YouTube live feed.
