Frederick County, MD – A Western Maryland man recently won the top prize of $50,000 on a $20 scratch-off ticket after trying his luck with the game. Despite only four of his five numbers being drawn on his regular Pick 5 game, the veteran decided to purchase the $50,000 Cash scratch-off, feeling confident he was in with a chance of winning.

After scanning the prize check area of his instant ticket at the Liberty Circle K in Frederick County, the man saw the message “Go to Lottery” appear. This led him to scratch off the entire instant ticket to reveal his top-prize win.

“I couldn’t believe it,” he said. “It was a $50,000 winner! I said to myself, ‘You got to be kidding me!'”

The lucky 78-year-old Frederick County resident shared that he is enjoying retirement after years of service as a government worker. He said that he plans to use his prize to pay bills.

In recognition of the winning ticket, Circle K at 100 Sandstone Drive in Walkersville, where the ticket was sold, will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
