GAITHERSBURG, Md. — An 80-year-old man is facing first-degree murder charges after police say he fatally stabbed his wife in their Leisure World apartment Saturday evening.

Montgomery County police responded around 6:06 p.m. to the 3300 block of North Leisure World Boulevard, where they found 78-year-old Beverly Fletcher dead inside the residence with multiple stab wounds and possible blunt force injuries.

Officers made contact with the alleged suspect, Vivian Stewart Nation, inside the apartment. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit.

Nation faces a bond hearing Monday while detectives continue to investigate the circumstances of the killing.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide caused by multiple sharp force injuries following an autopsy.
