BRIDGEVILLE, DE – Police are investigating a fatal crash that took place Monday in the Bridgeville area.

According to police, at approximately 1:22 p.m. on Monday, a gray 2010 Ford Focus was traveling northbound on Wesley Church Road approaching the intersection with Cannon Road. Meanwhile, a white 2014 Dodge Charger was traveling eastbound on Cannon Road approaching the same intersection.

Police noted that Wesley Church Road has a stop sign and flashing red traffic light at this intersection, while Cannon Road does not have a stop sign.

β€œIt is unclear why the driver of the Focus did not stop and proceeded through the intersection and into the path of the Charger. Both vehicles exited the roadway and came to rest north of Cannon Road as a result of the front of the Charger striking the left side of the Focus,” DSP said in a statement.

83-year-old man from Greenwood, Delaware, was properly restrained in the Focus. As a result of the accident, he was pronounced dead at the scene and his family and relatives have been notified. It was determined that the driver of the Charger, a 26-year-old man from Bridgeville, Delaware, was properly restrained. After being transported by ambulance to a local hospital, he was treated for his injuries and released.

This collision did not involve any other vehicles. As a result, the intersection was closed for approximately three hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
