9-Year-Old Girl Shot While Riding In Back Seat Of Car

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A young girl was shot in the back Sunday afternoon while riding in the back seat of a vehicle with two adults. The incident happened at the 1500 block of Shippen Lane in Southeast D.C.

Just after 4 pm, police from the D.C. MPD arrived at the 2700 Block of Douglas Place to investigate a report of a shooting involving a child. Officers who arrived on the scene found a 9-year-old girl suffering from a gunshot wound to her back. The child was promptly taken to a nearby hospital and is currently in stable condition.

The child was shot while riding in the back of a vehicle with two adults on the 1500 block of Shippen Lane, according to the initial investigation. The adults did not realize that the girl had been struck and proceeded to drive until they stopped on Douglas Place and reported the incident to the police.

Police describe the suspect as a black man wearing a dark ski mask. He may have been operating a dark sedan.
