OCOTILLO, Calif. – U.S. Border Patrol agents from El Centro Sector rescued two undocumented migrants in the Jacumba Wilderness region Saturday night.
At approximately 11:40 p.m., El Centro Sector Communications notified El Centro station of a report they received regarding two individuals in distress. The report stated that the individuals were dehydrated and in need of assistance.
Agents were notified of the distress call and responded to the last known GPS coordinates provided. At approximately 11:51 p.m., agents operating the Remote Video Surveillance System (RVSS) spotted the individual, 6 miles north of the U.S./Mexico border.
At approximately 11:55 p.m. agents encountered both individuals and conducted a wellness check and provided water to the individuals, it was determined no medical assistance was needed. It was also verified that the individuals did not possess the required documents to be legally present in the United States.
Both individuals were taken into custody and transported to the El Centro Sector Processing Center for additional medical evaluation and to be processed accordingly.
Since October, El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents have successfully rescued 177 individuals who were lost, in distress, or abandoned by smugglers.
