Akron woman’s holiday cheer soars with a $1 million Merry Money scratch-off win

AKRON, Ohio — A lucky Ohio Lottery player from Akron has claimed the $1 million top prize playing the Merry Money scratch-off, officials announced.

The winning ticket was purchased at ACME Fresh Market #1, located on West Market Street in Akron. The winner opted for the cash option of $500,000 and will take home approximately $360,000 after mandatory state and federal tax withholdings totaling 28 percent.

Merry Money is a $20 scratch-off game featuring a top prize of $40,000 annually for 25 years. As of December 5, two top prizes remain unclaimed, along with other prize levels in the game.

Since 1974, the Ohio Lottery has contributed over $32 billion to education statewide, supporting schools and programs through its games.
