ALBANY, N.Y. – A 29-year-old man was shot and wounded by police Thursday afternoon in downtown Albany after officers attempted to stop him in connection with several domestic violence investigations, authorities said.

The incident occurred around 1:15 p.m. near Trinity Place and Ashgrove Place, where officers confronted the suspect, identified as Devante Wadjas. According to police, Wadjas was wanted in multiple domestic-related cases when the encounter escalated and an officer discharged a firearm, striking him.

Wadjas was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of his injuries, which officials said were not life-threatening. No officers were injured during the incident.

Police have not released details about what led to the shooting but said the investigation is ongoing. The Albany Police Department’s Office of Professional Standards and the New York State Attorney General’s Office are both reviewing the incident, in line with standard procedures for officer-involved shootings.
