Alexandria woman wins $100K Powerball prize, marking her second big Virginia Lottery win

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Lightning has struck twice for Jennifer Helfman of Alexandria, who has won big with the Virginia Lottery for the second time. After winning $399,392 in 2022 playing the Savannah Adventures online game, Helfman is celebrating a $100,000 prize from the December 7 Powerball drawing.

The lucky winner matched four of the first five numbers and the Powerball number (1-31-43-55-57, Powerball 22), which typically earns $50,000. Thanks to purchasing the Power Play® option for an additional dollar, her prize was doubled to $100,000. Helfman won both times playing online, a platform that allows Virginia Lottery players access to Powerball, other drawing games, and exclusive online instant games.

Virginia Lottery profits directly benefit K-12 education, with more than $5.2 million allocated to Alexandria schools in the last fiscal year. Statewide, the Lottery raised over $934 million for education in Fiscal Year 2024, supporting approximately 10 percent of Virginia’s K-12 school budget.
