Rockland man convicted of burglary after rifling through apartment

New City, NY – A daytime break-in inside a Spring Valley home has ended with a guilty verdict, sending an Orangetown man to jail as he now faces the possibility of a lengthy state prison sentence.

Wesleigh Gilsenan, 41, of Orangetown, was found guilty Jan. 30 following a two-day bench trial in Rockland County Court. The verdict was delivered by Judge Kevin F. Russo, convicting Gilsenan of burglary in the second degree.

The conviction stems from an incident on April 24, when Gilsenan unlawfully entered a first-floor apartment inside a house in the Village of Spring Valley at around 10:50 a.m. Prosecutors said he rummaged through the victim’s belongings, including medication and cash, before leaving the residence.

Following the guilty verdict, Gilsenan was immediately remanded to the Rockland County Jail without bail. He now faces up to 15 years in state prison when he is sentenced on April 29.

District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II said the case underscores the impact burglary has on community safety and personal security. The investigation was conducted by the Spring Valley Police Department with assistance from the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigations.

The case was prosecuted by Supervising Assistant District Attorney Emily McNiff and Assistant District Attorney Katie Crispi.
