Argument Over Wheelchair Leads to Assault

CUMBERLAND, MD – Cumberland Police arrested a man who assaulted a victim over an argument with a wheelchair.

According to police, on August 25th, the Cumberland City Police arrested Robert Michael Washington, 43, of Cumberland, MD. Washington was arrested on an outstanding Arrest Warrant issued by the Allegany County District Court for an incident that occurred on August 23rd, 2022. During that Incident, officers responded to a Magnolia Ct residence for the report of an assault.

“Once on scene, victims alleged that Washington had assaulted them after an argument over a wheelchair,” police said.

He was taken before the District Court Commissioner for his Initial Appearance where he was released on a $5,000 unsecured bond.

In other Cumberland City news, on August 25th, the Cumberland City Police arrested Tavane Ernest Jones, 25, of Cumberland, MD. Jones was arrested on an outstanding Bench Warrant issued by the Allegany County Circuit Court on August 19th, 2022. The warrant was issued as a result of a Grand Jury Indictment that alleges Jones was involved in the possession and sales of narcotics. Jones was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center where he is being held without bond.
