Armed Robber Pointed Gun at Victim’s Head, Caught With Gun, Crack

NEWARK, NJ – Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé announced the arrest of Gian Dominiguez, 21, from Newark, in connection with an armed robbery that occurred last Friday, on July 21.

Late Friday evening, at approximately 10:20 p.m., a verbal dispute ensued between a male victim and a suspect on the 900 block of Bergen Street.

The suspect, later identified as Dominiguez, returned with another male, held a gun to the victim’s head, and demanded his belongings before fleeing towards Scheerer Avenue.

Patrol officers from the Newark Police Department who fit the suspect’s description saw Dominiguez walking on Scheerer Avenue. Following a brief pursuit, Dominiguez was apprehended at Hunterdon Street and Shephard Avenue.

A loaded 9mm handgun, 47 jugs of suspected CDS crack cocaine, and $413.05 were found in a bag he had thrown away during the chase. The handgun had previously been reported stolen from South Lumberton, North Carolina. Dominiguez now faces several charges, including robbery and unlawful possession of a weapon.
