GAINESVILLE, VA – After 26 years of military service, David Revill faced a new kind of surprise — winning a $2,164,899 jackpot while playing the Virginia Lottery’s Wheel of Bonuses game online.

The Gainesville resident claimed the progressive top prize in the instant-play game, which is available through the Virginia Lottery’s website and mobile app. The odds of winning any prize in Wheel of Bonuses are 1 in 3.67.

Revill’s win ranks among the largest online payouts in the state’s lottery history. He was playing from home when the massive jackpot hit.

Players must be 18 or older and physically located in Virginia to access online games. The Virginia Lottery also offers Powerball, Mega Millions, and a range of other draw and instant games online.

All proceeds from the Virginia Lottery benefit K-12 public education. Prince William County, where Revill resides, received more than $64.6 million in lottery funding in the last fiscal year.

Statewide, the Lottery raised over $934 million for education in Fiscal Year 2024, accounting for roughly 10 percent of Virginia’s K-12 budget.
