PHILADELPHIA, PA — A 27-year-old man was shot and killed Friday morning inside a SEPTA train station at 15th and Market Streets, prompting a swift investigation that led to the suspect’s surrender later that day, authorities said.

Officers arrived around 7:25 a.m. after reports of a person with a gun and found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

He was taken to Jefferson Hospital, where he died from his injuries at 10:43 a.m., police confirmed.

Victim pronounced dead hours after shooting

Authorities said SEPTA Police transported the victim, identified as Sied Ali-Young of the 6200 block of Chestnut Street, to Jefferson Hospital immediately after the shooting. He was initially listed in critical condition but later succumbed to his wounds.

The area near City Hall was briefly restricted as investigators collected evidence and reviewed surveillance footage from the underground concourse.

Suspect turns himself in with weapon

Later that day, Dawiz Idris Munson, 27, of the 4000 block of Green Street, surrendered to officers at the Philadelphia Police Department’s 16th District. Munson was taken into custody without incident and provided a firearm believed to be connected to the case.

Police charged Munson with murder and related offenses.

Investigation continues

Officials said no arrest photo is currently available. The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation by SEPTA Police and the Philadelphia Police Department.

Authorities have not reported any additional suspects, and no further details about the events leading up to the shooting were immediately released.
