Arrest Made in Decades-Old Unsolved Maryland Rape Case

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Cold Case Unit have arrested 62-year-old Xavier Battice, a California resident, in connection with a rape case dating back to 1992.

The Cold Case Unit encourages potential victims of Battice to come forward, following his recent arrest.

The incident occurred on September 24, 1992, when Battice allegedly followed and raped a female victim near Wisconsin Avenue in Chevy Chase.

Advances in DNA analysis led to a match in the Combined DNA Index System, resulting in Battice’s arrest on two counts of second-degree rape and one count of second-degree sexual assault.

Battice, apprehended in Morgan Hill, California, was transported to Montgomery County for processing. With concerns about additional victims, the police ask anyone with relevant information to contact them.
