Arrest Made in Taylorsville Shooting

TAYLORSVILLE, NC – A shooting in Taylorsville resulted in the arrest of 58-year-old Christopher Michael Carlay.

The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office received a call about the shooting at approximately 10:44 p.m. on Sunday, off McAlpin Lane.

Deputies discovered James Ashley Sweet, 43, with gunshot wounds.

He received immediate treatment before being airlifted to Charlotte. The investigation revealed that an argument between Sweet and Carlay led to the shooting.

Carlay is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury. He is currently held on a $300,000 bond.
