Arson Charges for Maryland Woman After Intentional House Fire

MECHANICSVILLE, MD – Wendy Hope Firebaugh, 64, faces multiple arson charges following a fire in a St. Mary’s County home she rented. The Maryland State Fire Marshal announced her arrest after a fire that occurred on December 31, while two other individuals were inside the property.

The incident was reported shortly before 9 a.m. on Sunday, December 31, when the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire at the 40000 block of Duke Road. The fire was contained to a bedroom, where the homeowner extinguished it using a pan of water, while his girlfriend called 911.

Firebaugh was arrested after investigators concluded the fire was intentionally started. She faces charges of first- and second-degree arson, malicious destruction of property under $1,000, and two counts of reckless endangerment.
