FREEHOLD, NJ — The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office reported that an Asbury Park man, Amando Miguel-Ortiz, has been convicted of the attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend, which occurred in March 2023. Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago confirmed the conviction following a weeklong trial presided over by Judge Jill G. O’Malley, concluding on Friday.
Miguel-Ortiz, 37, faces charges of first-degree Attempted Murder along with third and fourth-degree weapons offenses. The incident leading to his conviction took place around 5:15 p.m., when Asbury Park Police were called to a home for an assault report.
The victim, who is also the mother of Miguel-Ortiz’s child, suffered a head injury and was rushed to the hospital for emergency care.
Further investigations revealed that Miguel-Ortiz attacked the victim with a utility knife while she was at a friend’s house. He inflicted injuries by stabbing her in the torso and back of the head before being interrupted by the victim’s friend, which led him to flee. Shortly after the assault, he was apprehended and has been held at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution pending trial.
