ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – The Atlantic City Police Department resolved a standoff situation on November 22 when a man, Henry Dean, barricaded himself and his child inside his residence.
The incident began around 4:05 PM in the 1800 block of North Ohio Avenue, initially reported as a child custody dispute and a violation of a civil court order. Dean reportedly pointed a handgun at a woman, who was there to exchange custody of their 6-year-old child, causing her to flee. He then retreated inside with the child.
Police officers attempted to communicate with Dean using a public address system from a police vehicle, but these efforts were unsuccessful. The Emergency Response Team, including SWAT and Crisis Negotiators, was activated.
Crisis Negotiators eventually established contact with Dean, leading to his peaceful surrender. Following his arrest, detectives executed a search warrant and recovered a replica handgun.
The incident prompted the evacuation of neighboring residents and the temporary closure of the Venice Park bridge.
Henry Dean, 50, of Atlantic City, faces charges of aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a weapon.
