Avalon Police mourn the passing of retired Sergeant Arthur M. Ridler

AVALON, NJ — The Avalon Police Department is mourning the loss of retired Sergeant Arthur M. Ridler, who passed away on January 9, 2025, the department announced.

Ridler began his law enforcement career with the Avalon Police Department on April 20, 1960, after graduating from the New Jersey State Municipal Police Academy in Sea Girt.

He was promoted to the rank of sergeant on December 28, 1967, and was recognized with ten commendations for outstanding service during his career.

Ridler retired honorably on March 1, 1986, and spent his retirement in Dennis Township with his wife, Sandra.

He is survived by his wife Sandra, sons John and Arthur, daughter Lisa McLaughlin, stepsons Frank and Robert Ditzler, and several grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents Mary and Arthur, stepson Mark Ditzler, and sisters Mary Elizabeth Ridler and Nancie Hand.

Memorial service arrangements will be announced at a later date.
