Baltimore Man Shot in Chest, Died at Trauma Center, Gunman Arrested

BALTIMORE, MD – A Baltimore man reported that he had trouble breathing and police responded to the scene, believing they were dealing with an overdose victim.

Instead, on August 15th, when police arrived, the realized the man was shot in the chest.

“Upon arrival, officers found 35-year-old Eric Plater being treated by medics, complaining that he was having difficulties breathing,” police said. “Medics advised officers that Mr. Plater had been shot in the chest.”

Plater was transported to Shock Trauma where he died a short time later.

“Homicide detectives interviewed potential witnesses, viewed video surveillance, and ultimately identified the suspect. An arrest warrant was obtained,” police said.

On August 30, 2022, at approximately 12 noon, members of the warrant task force arrested 44-year-old Donte Simms in the 300 block of N. Paca Street.

Simms was transported to the Homicide Section where he was interviewed and then to Central Booking where he was charged with 1st Degree Murder.
