Barbershop Group Sings for Nurses

OCEAN COUNTY BARBERSHOP CHORUS TO DELIVER “SINGING TELEGRAMS”

The men of the Oceanaires are planning to salute healthcare workers with a surprise visit on Valentines Day weekend this year. The plan is to visit several rehabilitation, healthcare and assisted living facilities in Ocean County. In recognition of the aides busy work load, these stops will be quick: two songs, a thank-you card signed by the chorus members and a rose for the nurses’ station. Hopefully, they will return to work with a smile to share with their patients!

This idea of giving singing tributes to healthcare workers emerged during a recent visit to one of our chorus members at a local rehabilitation facility. As soon as he recognized his fellow singers – a group of 12 squeezing around his bed – a smile brightened his face. He even joined in the singing as he lay in his bed.

As we sang, few nursing aides crowded at the doorway, listening for a few minutes and taking a well-deserved if brief break from their important duties. As the group left that night, they were thanked by the aides and complimented on their heartwarming singing. The idea to deliver “Singing Valentines” at nursing stations around our area was born.

So this year we will do “Singing Valentines” but not as a fund-raiser. Here is an opportunity to serenade deserving staff members at these important facilities. Just the Oceanaires way of saying thank your for what they do for so many members of our community.
