BARBERTON, OH— Carol Duncan of Barberton is celebrating a life-changing win after claiming a $500,000 top prize on the Ohio Lottery’s $500,000 Cashword scratch-off.

Carol purchased the winning ticket late one night at Circle K #5602, located at 344 5th St in Barberton. She recalled a moment of fate when she saw a man in front of her buy the same ticket. “I’m getting the same ticket,” she said, and her choice turned out to be a $500,000 winner.

The magnitude of her win took some time to sink in. “I had to keep looking it over and over,” Carol shared, still in disbelief. This win comes at a particularly opportune moment for her, as she just retired a month ago.

With her newfound fortune, Carol plans to buy a house, a car for herself, and a car for her son.

$500,000 Cashword is a $10 scratch-off game offering a top prize of $500,000. As of August 15, one top prize remains in the game.

Since 1974, the Ohio Lottery has contributed over $32 billion to support education throughout the state.
