Man killed in late night barn inferno in St Marys County
CHAPTICO, MD – A 62-year-old man died after becoming trapped inside a burning barn in St. Mary’s County late Tuesday night as firefighters battled heavy flames that had nearly consumed the structure.
Emergency crews responded just after 10 p.m. Tuesday to 36111 Roosevelt Boulevard for reports of a barn fire with entrapment. Multiple 911 callers reported that a barn was on fire with one adult trapped inside.
Firefighters from the Seventh District Volunteer Fire Department, Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department and additional surrounding departments arrived to find a 50-by-100-foot barn nearly fully engulfed in flames. Responders were advised that a person remained inside the structure.

After bringing the fire under control, firefighters located the victim inside the barn. The 62-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been publicly released pending notification of next of kin.
The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal and the Maryland State Police are conducting a joint investigation into the cause and origin of the fire.
No additional injuries were reported.
