Bicyclist assaulted by an unknown suspect in Camden has died

Camden, N.J. – Acting Camden County Prosecutor Jill S. Mayer and Camden County Metro Police Chief Gabriel Rodriguez reported an assault victim has died as a result of injuries inflicted during a July 6th attack.

On Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at approximately 9:12 a.m., Camden County Metro Police were dispatched to the area of 7th and Pine Street for a report of an aggravated assault. On their arrival, officers found Edward Dupont, 53, of Camden, unconscious at the scene. Witnesses reported Dupont was struck in the head by an unknown male, causing Dupont to fall off his bicycle and strike his head on the pavement.

Dupont was transported to Cooper Hospital, where he was being treated, until he succumbed to his injuries on July 25, 2021.

After performing an autopsy on Dupont, the medical examiner determined the cause of death to be complications of a head injury and the manner of death to be a homicide.

The investigation is ongoing. No arrests have been made at this time. Anyone with information is urged to contact Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Detective Lance Merrill at (856) 225-8652 or Camden County Police Detective Edward Gonzalez at (856) 757-7042.
