RAWLINGS, MD — A devastating early morning fire tore through a single-family home on Golden Eagle Drive in Rawlings, displacing nine residents and causing an estimated $250,000 in damage.
The fire was reported around 4:10 a.m. on Monday at 23420 Golden Eagle Drive, engulfing the home’s attached two-car garage and spreading rapidly. A fifth-wheel trailer and a shed on the property were also destroyed.
Forty firefighters from the Rawlings Volunteer Fire Department responded to the two-alarm blaze, bringing the fire under control within an hour despite icy conditions that hampered suppression efforts.
One occupant sustained minor burns to their arms, but all nine residents—including a dog and a cat—escaped the fire safely.
The cause of the fire, which originated in the garage, remains under investigation. The American Red Cross and family members are assisting the displaced family.
