Schenectady, NY – A grim discovery was made Sunday afternoon when a body was found floating in the Mohawk River near Rivers Casino, drawing a large law enforcement response.

The Schenectady Police Department said a 911 call came in around 1:40 p.m. reporting what appeared to be a body in the water. Officers, joined by the New York State Police, Scotia Fire Department and the Schenectady County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol, worked together to recover the remains of a deceased male.

Authorities have not yet released the man’s name or any details on how long he may have been in the river.

Investigation continues
Police said the case remains under investigation and that further updates will be provided as information becomes available.

The Mohawk River, which cuts through downtown Schenectady and borders the popular casino and entertainment district, has been the site of several water rescues and recovery operations in recent years.

Community on alert
Residents in the area watched as emergency crews pulled the body from the riverbank. While officials stressed there is no immediate threat to the public, the discovery has left many awaiting answers.
