Bowie Retiree Wins $30,000 in Lottery, Nearly Loses Ticket

Lottery Scratch Off Tickets

BOWIE, MD – Jorge Baez Ventura, a retired contractor from Bowie, Maryland, experienced a stroke of extraordinary luck when he won $30,000 from a FAST PLAY BATTLESHIP ticket, a fortune he nearly discarded.

The Prince George’s County resident purchased the $3 ticket at Hampton Mall Exxon in Capitol Heights. After buying $20 worth of scratch-offs and winning a mere $3, Ventura decided to use his small winnings to buy the FAST PLAY ticket. Five days later, he realized that he held a ticket worth $30,000, making him the first of ten top prize winners in the game which debuted in 2023.

Upon discovering his win, an ecstatic Ventura called his daughter to share the good news, revealing that he had almost thrown the ticket away. He plans to use the winnings to support his family, including his wife and four children, and to fund a trip to the Dominican Republic.

The Hampton Mall Exxon, located at 8901 Central Avenue, will also benefit from Ventura’s win, receiving a $300 bonus for selling the top-prize ticket.
