Brick police k9 teams join fbi-led nyc port drug search

BRICK TOWNSHIP, NJ — Brick Township police K9 teams trained alongside federal agents and regional units during a large-scale maritime exercise that spanned the Hudson River and key port locations in New York and New Jersey, officials said.

The April 22 training, hosted by the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force, brought together explosive and narcotics detection teams from across the tri-state area, including multiple K9 handlers from the Brick Township Police Department.

Multi-agency drill targets maritime threats

According to Brick Township police, the exercise focused on real-world scenarios involving the detection of explosives and large quantities of narcotics in maritime and urban environments.

Participating teams boarded vessels, crossed the Hudson River, and conducted operations in Manhattan, including search activities at Pier 11. Additional sweeps were carried out in Jersey City, where K9 units inspected buildings and shipping containers.

Brick Township officers Ptl. Ray LaPoint with K9 Rebel, Ptl. Glen Pacyna with K9 Diesel, and Ptl. Melia with K9 Jax were among those taking part in the training.
