Toms River, NJ – Former New Jersey gubernatorial candidate Jack Ciattarelli has accepted a new private-sector leadership role, joining Open Road Ventures as one of the first members of the company’s newly created Board of Advisors.
The announcement comes after Ciattarelli’s three campaigns for governor made him one of New Jersey’s best-known Republican figures. Before entering statewide politics, Ciattarelli built a career as a businessman and entrepreneur, experience the transportation investment firm said will help guide its future growth strategy.
Open Road Ventures, which acquires and supports transportation and freight brokerage companies, announced Tuesday that Ciattarelli will join advisors Ryan Schreiber while transportation executive Adam Rodery becomes the company’s Vice President of Strategy & Integration.
From business executive to three gubernatorial campaigns
Although many New Jersey residents know Ciattarelli for his gubernatorial campaigns, his professional background has long centered on business, finance and entrepreneurship.
A former certified public accountant and business executive, Ciattarelli later entered public office, serving in the New Jersey General Assembly, where he sat on the Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee and the Regulated Professions Committee.
He subsequently launched three campaigns for governor, becoming the Republican nominee in multiple election cycles and remaining one of the state’s most recognizable political figures.
Throughout those campaigns, Ciattarelli frequently emphasized economic growth, business investment, government efficiency and tax policy as central themes.
According to Open Road Ventures, those experiences helped lead to his appointment.
“Over the course of my campaigns, the ORV team often heard me speak about how to grow an economy,” Ciattarelli said. “It was that shared focus that brought us together and now has me very excited to join the company’s Board of Advisors.”
Company says business experience fits acquisition strategy
Open Road Ventures said Ciattarelli will help advise the company on financial strategy, acquisitions and long-term growth as it continues expanding through purchases of freight brokerage companies.
The company recently acquired Double Stack Logistics and said it expects continued growth as consolidation accelerates within the transportation industry.
“Working in partnership with the founding members and senior leadership, I look forward to leveraging my financial and operational expertise to help Open Road Ventures realize significant acquisition-based and organic growth, as well as all our long-term objectives,” Ciattarelli said.
Open Road Ventures founder Mike Riccio said the addition of Ciattarelli and the other executives strengthens the company’s leadership team.
“Adam, Jack, and Ryan each bring a unique perspective that strengthens our ability to support the entrepreneurs who choose to partner with Open Road Ventures,” Riccio said. “Their collective expertise will help the companies we acquire navigate an increasingly complex marketplace while positioning ORV for continued success.”
Transportation industry facing changing legal landscape
The appointments come as transportation and logistics companies navigate new legal and operational challenges.
Open Road Ventures said its expansion follows the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Montgomery v. Caribe Transport II, which the company said has increased legal uncertainty for many small and midsized freight brokerages.
The firm believes joining larger organizations can provide independent brokerages with greater operational support, compliance resources and technology as regulatory requirements continue evolving.
Also joining the leadership team is Adam Rodery, who previously held senior leadership roles with Kansas City Southern Railway and MODE Global, where he led one of North America’s largest intermodal operations.
Ryan Schreiber, another new member of the Board of Advisors, brings nearly two decades of experience in freight brokerage and logistics technology, including work involving artificial intelligence applications within the transportation industry.
Open Road Ventures said all three executives are expected to begin their new roles on Sept. 1.
While Ciattarelli’s public profile has largely been shaped by politics over the past decade, the appointment marks a return to the business sector where he spent much of his career before seeking statewide office. It also reflects how former elected officials and candidates often transition into advisory roles where experience in finance, regulation and economic policy can be valuable to growing private companies.
Local Impact
Ciattarelli remains one of New Jersey’s highest-profile Republican figures, making his move into a leadership position at Open Road Ventures notable beyond the transportation industry. His appointment also highlights the continued intersection of business leadership and public policy experience within New Jersey’s corporate community.
