Brick Township swears in new special law enforcement officers

BRICK, N.J. — Four new Special Law Enforcement Officers (SLEO I) were sworn in during Tuesday night’s town council meeting, joining the Brick Township Police Department.

Chief David Forrester and Mayor Lisa Crate welcomed Darren LaFay, Brenda Sanchez Leon, Michael Weber, and Katie LaPoint to their new roles. The officers will assist with bookings during arrests, parking enforcement, court security, and crowd management at township events.

SLEO I officers provide critical support to the police department, handling non-emergency duties that help free up full-time officers for other law enforcement tasks. The department emphasized the importance of their contributions to public safety and community operations.

The swearing-in ceremony recognized the officers’ commitment to serving Brick Township in a capacity that enhances the efficiency of local law enforcement.
