PHILADELPHIA, PA — Three armed suspects robbed a Brinks security officer at gunpoint Tuesday afternoon outside the Holmesburg Shopping Center, fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash and the officer’s service weapon, according to Philadelphia police.
The robbery occurred around 12:17 p.m. in the parking lot of the shopping center located at 8445 Frankford Avenue. Officers from the 8th District responded to a report of a robbery in progress and made contact with the victim, a Brinks security officer.
Police said the guard had just completed a cash pickup from a nearby store and was walking back to his armored truck when he was approached by an armed man who ordered him not to move. As the guard reached for his service weapon, two more suspects exited a silver 2022 Honda Accord parked behind the Brinks vehicle.
One of the suspects, identified by police as the driver, pointed a black AR-style rifle at the officer while another suspect grabbed the money bag. A third suspect removed the officer’s Brinks-issued handgun from its holster, authorities said.
The suspects ordered the guard to open the armored vehicle, but were unable to access the truck due to its internal security locking mechanism. They then fled the scene in the silver Honda heading north on Frankford Avenue.
No injuries were reported in the incident. The amount of money taken was not disclosed.
The investigation remains ongoing. Detectives are also working to determine whether this robbery is connected to similar recent incidents targeting armored transport services.
