Bronx Woman Arrested for Deadly Hit and Run that Left Young Bicyclist Dead

Bronx, NY – A Bronx woman has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred in 2022, resulting in the death of a young male bicyclist.

On Sunday, July 3, 2022, at approximately 2:57 PM, police were called to the scene of a vehicle collision at the intersection of East 172 Street and Metcalf Avenue. Upon arrival, they found 21-year-old Christian Castelan, a bicyclist, with severe bodily trauma.

Castelan was quickly transported to NYC Health and Hospitals/Jacobi, where he was pronounced dead.

The initial investigation revealed that Castelan was hit by a white Jeep Grand Cherokee as he was traveling northbound on Metcalf Avenue, crossing East 172 Street. The impact ejected Castelan from his bicycle, and the Jeep continued on, striking two parked and unoccupied vehicles before the driver fled the scene.

Jetsy Rodriguez, 28, from the Bronx, has been arrested and faces charges of manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, and leaving the scene of an accident.

The NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad continues to investigate the incident.
