BRONX, NY – A 22-year-old Brooklyn man has been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a Bronx resident earlier this month, officials said.

On September 11 at approximately 6:30 p.m., police took Desean Edwards, 22, of Beverly Road in Brooklyn, into custody in the 48th Precinct. Edwards has been charged with murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

The charges stem from a deadly incident on September 2, when officers responding around 2 a.m. discovered Jontay Davis, 21, with a gunshot wound to the head in the rear of 4422 Third Avenue. EMS rushed Davis to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators later identified Edwards as the suspect, leading to his arrest more than a week after the killing.

Davis, a Bronx resident who lived on Anthony Avenue, was the sole victim in the shooting. Police have not disclosed a motive or further details about the circumstances leading to the fatal encounter.

The case remains under investigation.
