Brooklyn Man Sentenced to 25 Years for Murder of Ex-Girlfriend, Attempted Murder of Her Mother

BROOKLYN, NY – Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced on Friday that Gabriel Rivera, a 30-year-old Brooklyn man, has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for the murder of his former girlfriend, Sade Sanchez, and attempted murder of her mother.

After a nine-year relationship and two children together, Sanchez ended things with Rivera, who began stalking and harassing her.

On October 6, 2018, Rivera assaulted a 21-year-old male friend of Sanchez’s outside her home, warning him not to be with “his woman.” On October 7, 2018, Rivera shot Sanchez five times and attempted to shoot her mother, but the gun did not fire.

Rivera was arrested the following day and pleaded guilty to multiple charges on March 29, 2023, before being sentenced by Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Rhonda Tomlinson.
