Business Owner Demanded Employee Kickbacks After Underpaying Wages

MINEOLA, NY – Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly announced charges against Angelo Stanco, 58, and his company, American Paving & Masonry Corp. The charges include Grand Larceny, Failure to Pay the Prevailing Wage, and Forgery.

Stanco and his company were arraigned before Judge Norman A. Samut on multiple counts, including six counts of Grand Larceny in the Third Degree. Both the individual and the corporation pleaded not guilty and are due back in court on October 11.

According to the charges, on July 24, 2018, Stanco and his company agreed to remit $102,631 to the New York State Department of Labor for underpaid wages and interest.

The case alleges that Stanco demanded kickbacks from employees and threatened termination for non-compliance.

The Nassau County District Attorney’s office is working in collaboration with the New York State Department of Labor to prosecute this case. If convicted, Stanco could face up to 7 years in prison and a five-year prohibition from public work contracts.
