CAMBRIDGE, MD – Police responded to a home in Cambridge after a 17-month-old child was rushed to the hospital after possibly ingesting illegal drugs. Police say the child was experiencing signs of being under the influence of narcotics upon their arrival at a Hubert Street home.

Dorchester County Emergency personnel transported the child to the University of Maryland Shore Regional Health.

During their investigation, police found five other children in the home and notified Child Protective Services.

The children were all under the age of 10. After obtaining a search warrant, police discovered activity to suspect the home was being used for packaging heroin and fentanyl for distribution.

The five children were placed into the custody of another family member. Police charged the child’s mother Ra’Jame Charaka Za’Guan Cooper with five counts of neglect of a minor.
