Camden County teen counselor charged with crimes against young girl in program

Camden, NJ – A Camden County care counselor has been charged with sexual assault of a child under the age of thirteen this week.

Acting Camden County Prosecutor Jill S. Mayer and Camden County Metro Police Chief Gabriel Rodriguez announce that Steven Brown, age 28, a counselor with a partial care program in Camden City, was charged and arrested this week on accusations of sexually assaulting a child in the program. Brown was charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, and endangering the welfare of a child.

The investigation into the allegations began when disclosure was made that the counselor engaged in sexual intercourse with the child, who was under the age of 13 at the time of the alleged offense. Brown was arrested on the charges on June 29 and taken to the Camden County Correctional Facility pending his initial court appearance.

The State was successful in arguing that he should be detained. He remains in jail pending trial.
