Owner of multiple dogs sent to county jail
SECAUCUS, NJ – The owner of three Cane Corso dogs has been arrested and charged after separate incidents in Secaucus and Hoboken led to multiple criminal counts, including aggravated assault and animal cruelty, authorities said.
Robert Braxton, 42, of Hoboken, was taken into custody Tuesday by Secaucus and Hoboken police following investigations into altercations involving his dogs in both municipalities.
In connection with a February 16 incident in Secaucus, Braxton is charged with aggravated assault, a second-degree crime, and two counts of endangering another person, third-degree crimes.
Authorities said he also faces charges tied to a February 18 incident in Hoboken, including animal cruelty, risk of widespread injury and two counts of simple assault.
Three Cane Corso dogs were seized by Secaucus police after court authorization was obtained. The dogs remain housed at the Secaucus Animal Shelter.
Braxton had been scheduled to appear in municipal court Tuesday regarding the seizure of the dogs but was arrested prior to that hearing. The municipal court appearance has been rescheduled for March 3.
After consultation with the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, criminal charges were formally filed. Braxton was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.
Officials emphasized that the charges are accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
