Cape Henlopen High School Student Arrested for Gun Possession

LEWES, DE — A 17-year-old student was arrested at Cape Henlopen High School in Lewes after being found with a loaded handgun. The incident occurred on January 17 at around 12:25 PM.

School staff alerted the School Resource Officer about a student potentially carrying a firearm. A subsequent search of the student’s backpack by the officer led to the discovery of a loaded 9mm handgun. The student was taken into custody without any harm to other students or staff.

The teen, whose identity has not been disclosed, was transported to Troop 7. Charges include Carrying a Concealed Firearm and Possession of a Firearm in a Safe School Zone, both felonies. Following arraignment by Justice of the Peace Court 3, the student was committed to Stevenson House Detention Center on a $10,000 secured bond.
