Car seat saves 3-month-old baby who was struck after gunman shot up mom’s car

COLUMBUS, OH – On October 17, 2021 at 5:07 pm, Columbus Police Officers responded to the 2800 block of Noe Bixby Rd. on the report of a vehicle that had been shot up.

Officers arrived to find two victims had been struck by the gunfire. 29-year-old Shakiyla White was transported to an area hospital in stable condition, while the second victim, a 3-month-old boy, was transported to a different hospital in stable condition as well.

It is still unclear of what caused the suspect to shoot into a vehicle with 6 people in it including a 6-month-old baby. The only information at this time was a grayish car pulled up beside of the victim’s vehicle and fired several bullets into the vehicle.

“The carseat saved the 3-month-old baby boy’s life. A bullet went through the car and through baby’s the car seat but just broke skin,” said Det. Younker.
