Man Charged in Fatal North Versailles Collision

**North Versailles, PA** – Allegheny County Police have charged a man from Wilkins Township following a deadly crash in North Versailles on Thursday.

The incident occurred at 6:12 p.m. at the intersection of Crooked Run Road and 5th Avenue, involving a Nissan Versa driven by 66-year-old Tammy Chonko and a Pontiac Grand Am driven by 20-year-old Aaron Butler. Chonko was transported to a hospital where she was pronounced deceased. Butler was also hospitalized but remains in stable condition.

North Versailles Police sought support from the Allegheny County Police Department’s Homicide and Collision Reconstruction Units, sparking an investigation. It was determined that the Nissan attempted a left turn when it was struck by the Pontiac, which was traveling at 90 miles per hour. A toxicology report confirmed the presence of cannabinoids and THC in Butler’s system.

Butler faces charges, including homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, and driving under the influence. At present, he is held in Allegheny County Jail awaiting a preliminary arraignment after turning himself in.

Brooklyn Man Receives Prison Sentence for Knife Assault

**Brooklyn, NY** – A Bushwick man has been sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison for slashing a stranger with a knife and attacking a bystander who tried to intervene, according to an announcement by Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez.

The defendant, Michael Ruiz, 46, was sentenced by Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Laura Johnson on Friday. He received a three-and-a-half-year prison term with three years of post-release supervision. Ruiz was convicted on August 19 of second-degree assault and third-degree attempted assault following a jury trial.

The incident occurred on June 28, 2022, at approximately 2:15 a.m. on Berry Street in Greenpoint. The 39-year-old victim was on the phone outside his apartment when Ruiz, a stranger, threatened him. Ruiz left to retrieve a knife from his car and continued to menace the victim upon returning.

A bystander attempting to intervene was punched by Ruiz, who then kicked the original victim to the ground and slashed him with the knife. The victim sustained injuries including a fractured orbital bone and arm laceration, requiring 15 stitches. Ruiz was apprehended on October 6, 2022

Suspect Dies in Apparent Suicide After Double Shooting Incident

**Baltimore, MD** – Baltimore County Police Department is investigating a double shooting that took place on Thursday evening at around 6 p.m. The shooting occurred near the intersection of Deer Park and Wards Chapel roads, following a custody exchange between the female victim and adult male suspect involving their 2-year-old son.

The suspect forced the victim’s vehicle to a stop as she and her child attempted to leave the location. The suspect then approached the vehicle and shot into it, injuring both the mother and the child. The victims sustained gunshot wounds and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Both are reported to be in stable condition.

Later, the suspect was found at his residence with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The investigation continues as authorities gather more information regarding the circumstances surrounding the case.
