Rained Out Parrot Beach Concert Rescheduled in Seaside Heights

SEASIDE HEIGHTS-Last night’s Parrot Beach concert was rained out, but it has been rescheduled.

“Parrotbeach concert has been rescheduled from tonight to July 26th. Hello Jimmy Buffett fans and citizens of Margaritaville. Due to the weather forecast for thunderstorms this evening, which have a 50% chance of being right and 50% chance of being wrong, we rescheduled Parrotbeach’s concert to Wednesday, July 26th. That is also a fireworks night. Double the fun. And all free,” the borough said.

 

Hot Dog Eating Contest Returns to Seaside Heights

SEASIDE HEIGHTS-The Casino Pier in Seaside Heights is inviting you to come celebrate National Hot Dog Day with them and enter their 5th annual hot dog eating contest.

“Think you’ve got the guts? Compete against other amateur eaters to down the most Pier Grill hot dogs,” the company said.

First place winner will win a $500 cash reward.  Participants must be at least 15 years of age to enter.  The event will be on July 20th at 1pm.  Registration is now open for contestants.

Holbrook Wins District 18 Little League Championship

Holbrook wins district 18 little league championshipTOMS RIVER- The Holbrook Little League All-Stars defeated Manchester Little League 18 – 5 after losing their opening game to Manchester 7-6.   Holbrook blew through the tournament bracket beating Brick 8-2, then Toms River 14-2 to claim the championship berth.

Facing elimination on Monday, Holbrook defeated Manchester 18-12 before defeating Manchester in the title game Tuesday night.

In the first inning, Holbrook’s JR Osmond hit a three run home run to take a 3-0 lead.

In the next inning Garrett Drew solidified Holbrook’s lead with a two-run shot.  John Grano and Chris Andrews each hit doubles in the inning, including and RBI double by Grano.

Manchester showed signs of life in the bottom of the second inning, scoring 5 runs, including a grand slam home run by Gavin Degnan.  After two, the game was close, with Holbrook leading 6-5.

In the 5th inning, Holbrook scored 12 runs and won by the Little League 10 run mercy rule.

Holbrook will now advance to the New Jersey Section 3 tournament, their next step towards Williamsport, PA and the Little League World Series.

Woman Arrested After Trying to Rob Elderly Good Samaritan

A South Toms River woman has been arrested and charged after trying to take advantage of the charity of a good samaritan.

According to South Toms River Police, on Tuesday, patrol officers and detectives responded to Chamberlain Street for a report of a robbery.

Responding officers found an 80 year old female had given Ashley Miller a ride from the American Deli on Dover Road.

During the ride, Miller advised the female to stop the vehicle and then attempted to leave the vehicle with the victim’s purse.  A struggle, ensued causing an injury to the victim.

Miller was later found in the Manitou Park area by the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department officers who had responded to the area to assist.

Detectives were able to locate the victim’s property and returned all of her belongings.  Miller was charged with a 2nd degree robbery and lodged in the Ocean County Jail.

Miller has already been released from the Ocean County Jail under NJ’s Bail Reform Act.
