ALLEGHENY COUNTY, PA – The Allegheny County Police Department has announced charges against Robert Veith, a former corrections officer at the Allegheny County Jail, following an incident of unnecessary force. The event, which took place on January 3, involved Veith and an incarcerated male on Level 6 of the facility.
Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators revealed Veith, 49, of Plum, engaging in a physical altercation with the inmate, where he was seen striking the individual multiple times with his fist. The situation escalated when a responding supervisor employed a taser on the inmate, with Veith continuing his assault even after the inmate had fallen.
Following a review with the district attorney’s office, Veith faces charges including harassment, official oppression, and simple assault. He has since been dismissed from his position at the Allegheny County Jail.
