INDIAN HEAD, Md. — A great-grandmother from Charles County has claimed the largest lottery prize of her life, winning $100,000 on two Pick 5 tickets in the Aug. 30 midday drawing. The Southern Maryland resident used a family member’s important date as her winning number combination.

The anonymous winner’s relative bought two $1 straight bets on the number 82869 at Lee’s Market in Indian Head. Both tickets hit the $50,000 prize in the midday Pick 5 drawing, totaling $100,000.

“We were shocked,” she said after discovering the win. The family confirmed the prize at a local Lottery retailer, with both tickets returning the message, “Congratulations! $50,000 Winner!”

The winner plans to use her prize for home renovations, a family vacation, and savings. Lee’s Market, where the tickets were purchased, will receive a $500 bonus for each winning ticket.
