Charlottesville Man Arrested on Sexual Assault Charges

Albemarle County, VA – The Albemarle County Police Department (ACPD) has made an arrest following a sexual assault investigation that began in early June. John G. Bencid, 25, of Charlottesville, was arrested on Monday, July 22, 2024, after a victim reported an assault that occurred on Thursday, June 6, 2024.

Bencid has been charged with two felonies: §18.2-61 Rape and §18.2-67.1 Object Sexual Penetration. He is currently being held without bond at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.

The ACPD initiated the investigation on Friday, June 7, 2024, following the victim’s report of the assault. Details regarding the investigation have not been released as the case is ongoing.
